Take a half day journey to discover the land of the legendary Mountain Wine produced in the unique terroir of Montes de Málaga with the surprising dry and sweet Muscat wines of the Axarquía countryside.

In our mountain wine tours, we start the morning tasting 2 Premium white wines (including the Mountain Wine Voladeros) plus a Premium red, under a shady holm oak tree overlooking the steeped vineyards and a stunning landscape.

Later in the day, we move towards the heroic viticulture vineyards of the Axarquía countryside, where the single bush vines are found in extremely steep slopes with an angle ranging from 40% up to 60%, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

The main grape varieties are Moscatel de Alejandría – Muscat and PX (Pedro Ximén). We visit a family run Bodega to discover ancient and traditional winemaking techniques and we taste 5 different wines among dry and sweet styles.

Concerning the production  of wine, the Axarquia and the Northern district of Montes de Málaga both share a wide range of terroirs, like the 600 millions years old unclassified soil of Montes de Málaga and the 250 millions years old slate and schist in the Axarquía.

The altitude of the vineyards ranges from the 500 m elevation in the Axarquía up to 1100 m in Montes de Málaga. Most of the vineyards are bush vines located on very steep slopes between 40%-68%. This is the area of the heroic viticulture, where all the labour in the vineyards is done by hand using sometimes just the mule to load the grapes during harvest or  in and their location is essential for the ripening of the grapes or to plow the land.

Axarquia is the former eastern side of the muslim kingdom which ruled Andalusia for more than 700 years until the arrival of the Catholic Kings in mid XV century.

Nowadays the Axarquía is a popular seaside area where mostly locals spend their summer vacations with an increasing number of tourists looking for less crowded and more authentic places.

In all our mountain wine tours lunch option is available on request.
